Cobbs Hill

Rochester, NY

by Elani Spencer

The light green of summer sunlight

through canopies of waking trees

is a nostalgic shade of childhood.

I’m taller now.

Now I can smell the dewy remains of rainfall,

the sweet crackle of sap-covered acorns.

The trees have grown too, their roots

and trunks becoming thicker, more grounded,

pumping life

into the soil that feeds

every plant at Cobbs Hill.
